The AICTA was first introduced in 2012. Led by Brunei Darussalam, it is one of the key initiatives of the ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2015 (AIM2015) which aims to make ICT a key enabler of social and economic integration in ASEAN as well as promoting innovation and collaboration among government, businesses, citizens and other institutions.

The AICTA awards is platform for recognising the best achievements by information and communication technology (ICT) entreprenuers in the region and aim to create a certain benchmark for innovation and creativity. The Awards also offers business opportunities and promotes trade relations, which uplifts the strength and community awareness of ICT in ASEAN both locally and internationally.
